Why We Need Your Help.
Every year thousands of Americans die from preventable diseases such as Heart disease, cancer and stroke. Many more Americans are living with complications of diseases related to Diabetes, obesity, Hypertension and HIV/AIDS
Even though the United States spends more on healthcare per capita than any other country in the world, the mortality and the morbidity rate from these diseases continues to rise.
Alarming statistics shows that over 44 million Americans have no health insurance, and those with insurance have very limited coverage.
Although Americans are increasingly using many types of clinical preventive services, utilization remains below recommended levels for some services such as early screening, early diagnostic testing, adequate disease management and health education; and Persons living in poverty are considerably less likely to use any type of health care services.
At nursing bridges our emphasis are on preventative healthcare care such as early screening, diagnostic testing, early treatment and health education through our community outreach programs. We are actively bringing much needed awareness to the following facts- Health behaviors affect health status. Obesity increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Cigarette smoking increases the risk of lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema, and other diseases. Heavy and chronic use of alcohol and use of illicit drugs increase the risk of disease and injuries. Unprotected sex can lead sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy. Pregnant teenagers are less likely to receive early prenatal care and more likely to drop out of school and to live in poverty Nursing Bridges advocates health promotion and disease prevention.
